The League City Regional Chamber of Commerce will host its first ever Bias Awareness in the Workplace event in LCRCC boardroom on Friday, February 26, 2021.
The purpose of the event is to discuss biases people may have in the workplace, with the speaker for the seminar being Mae Francis, President of Lookin’ Up Consulting. The idea for the event was created by chamber President/CEO Dewan Clayborn.
“People often say things without knowing the implications of them,” Clayborn said. “The purpose of the event is to enlighten the League City Community about the different types of biases one might encounter in the workplace. It is to open people’s eyes to what they might not see from what others could truly see.”
Clayborn said the goal of the event is to educate people about their biases and both educate and increase awareness about discrimination and bias in the workplace.
“This will allow for individuals to understand their unconsciousness biases that we all have,” Clayborn said. “The goal is to identify these biases and to work towards basically realizing that we are all equal bystanders to expand our minds on biasness. Once we have realized that and accepted that, we can connect through each other's common interest to help us to grow and realize that we are all equal.”
