CLEAR CREEK INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Clear Creek Independent School District (Clear Creek ISD) was formed in 1948 through the consolidation of the schools in League City, Seabrook, Webster, and Kemah. Currently, Clear Creek ISD serves approximately 35,000 students and is averaging 1,000 to 1,200 new students each school year.
Clear Creek ISD earned a Recognized status in 2005/2006 for the ninth consecutive year from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Accountability Ratings system. The Recognized rating is the highest designation earned to date by any school district with more than 25,000 students.
DICKINSON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Located in the northern half of Galveston County and encompassing 61 square miles, Dickinson Independent School District (Dickinson ISD) serves approximately 7,000 students and has a current annual growth rate of five percent. The needs of a diversified student population are met through a strong, well-aligned curriculum that has produced equal to or above state average results on the recent Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test at most grade levels. The district has the only Texas Education Agency (TEA) Distinguished Performance Campus in Galveston County, as well as three TEA Recognized Schools.

In the greater League City Trade Area there are 23 private schools providing education from elementary to high school levels.
COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
Within 30 miles of League City there are five major universities and 24 colleges. The two major universities, Rice and the University of Houston, along with nearby Texas A&M, conduct research in business and technical areas and provide a strong supply of qualified graduates. Total college enrollment in the area exceeds 225,000 students. Nine regional community colleges provide a high level of training, re-training, skills upgrading, and employee development for local business and industry. Cooperative training by these colleges provides customized on- or off-site training at any time before, during or after working hours.
Many area companies have arranged joint training programs with the colleges for company employees.
In 2003, College of the Mainland, whose primary campus is located in Texas City, opened the North County Learning Center, located off FM 518 at Parker Court in League City. This facility houses four classrooms with a capacity for 120 students. Real estate and business classes are offered at this new center.

SALES TAX
The State of Texas applies a sales tax rate of 6.25 percent to the sale of tangible personal property and taxable services, with exemptions for items such as grocery food, utilities, raw materials, and manufacturing equipment. In conjunction with the state sales tax, municipalities in Texas may levy a sales tax. The City of League City applies a sales tax of 1.75 percent for a total sales tax of eight percent.
Climate
Located on the Gulf Coast of Texas, League City enjoys a mild year-round climate. The annual average temperature is 69 degrees F in the winter. The coldest temperatures occur during January and February with the temperatures averaging 55 degrees F. During the winter, the area averages less than 20 days with temperatures of 32 degrees F or below. The growing season averages 300 days per year with the normal frost-free period extending from February 14 to December 11.
Health Care
The League City/Houston Bay Area is served by two modern hospitals with Life Flight capability and 40 medical groups/clinics. Over 200 physicians, surgeons and general practice physicians, and 132 dentists, have practices in the region and cover a wide range of specialties.
Extreme medical emergencies or afflictions requiring highly specialized treatment can be met at the world-class Texas Medical Center in Houston, which is ten minutes (15 miles) north by Life Flight helicopter.
The area is also only 15 minutes flight time away from the Shriner Children’s Hospital and Burn Center in Galveston, which is recognized nationally for its top-quality treatment of burn patients.
Facilities serving the immediate League City area include –
CHRISTUS-St. John’s Hospital – Since 1981, the shores of Clear Lake have lent a picturesque setting for this 135-bed acute care community hospital. The hospital offers a wide range of medical services and specializes in sports medicine.
Clear Lake Regional Medical Center – This 434-bed tertiary regional referral center offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty services. More than 40 medical specialties and associated services are represented, including open-heart surgery, Level III neonatal intensive care, and a comprehensive cardiovascular center.
Devereux Texas Treatment Network – Devereux Texas Treatment Network is part of the Devereux Foundation, a nonprofit, nationwide network of treatment facilities specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, developmental, psychiatric, and substance abuse disorders.
Since its established in 1992, Devereux has served thousands of community members from Galveston, Harris, and Brazoria and other counties across the nation. Well known throughout the behavioral health care community for providing contemporary, innovative psychiatric and substance abuse treatment, Devereux offers positive outcomes for children and families who have often lost hope. Devereux is one of the largest employers in League City, employing 265 permanent and 40 contract staff.
Services offered at Devereux-League City include inpatient and partial hospitalization programs for children and adolescents, inpatient sub-acute program for adolescents, long-term residential care for adolescents and young adults, and outpatient services for all ages. Devereux-League City also offers intensive outpatient services for adolescents and adults with chemical dependency disorders and senior adults with mental health issues.
